We, the sovereign Filipino people, imploring the aid of ๐๐น๐บ๐ถ๐ด๐ต๐๐ ๐๐ผ๐ฑ, in order to build a just and humane society, and establish a Government that shall embody our ideals and aspirations, promote the common good, conserve and develop our patrimony, and secure to ourselves and our posterity, the blessings of independence and democracy under the rule of law and a regime of truth, justice, freedom, ๐น๐ผ๐๐ฒ, equality, and peace, do ordain and promulgate this Constitution.
๐๐ฟ๐๐ถ๐ฐ๐น๐ฒ ๐๐, ๐ฆ๐ฒ๐ฐ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป ๐ญ๐ฎ. The State recognizes the sanctity of family life and shall protect and strengthen the family as a basic autonomous social institution. It shall equally protect the life of the mother and the life of the unborn from conception. The natural and primary right and duty of parents in the rearing of the youth for civic efficiency and the development of ๐บ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐น ๐ฐ๐ต๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ shall receive the support of the Government.
๐๐ฟ๐๐ถ๐ฐ๐น๐ฒ ๐๐, ๐ฆ๐ฒ๐ฐ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป ๐ญ๐ฏ. The State recognizes the vital role of the youth in nation-building and shall promote and protect their physical, ๐บ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐น, ๐๐ฝ๐ถ๐ฟ๐ถ๐๐๐ฎ๐น, intellectual, and social well-being. It shall inculcate in the youth patriotism and nationalism, and encourage their involvement in public and civic affairs.
๐๐ฟ๐๐ถ๐ฐ๐น๐ฒ ๐ซ๐๐ฉ, ๐ฆ๐ฒ๐ฐ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป ๐ฏ. They (referring to “all educational institutions”) shall inculcate patriotism and nationalism, foster love of humanity, respect for human rights, appreciation of the role of national heroes in the historical development of the country, teach the rights and duties of citizenship, strengthen ๐ฒ๐๐ต๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐น ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐๐ฝ๐ถ๐ฟ๐ถ๐๐๐ฎ๐น ๐๐ฎ๐น๐๐ฒ๐, develop moral character and personal discipline, encourage critical and creative thinking, broaden scientific and technological knowledge, and promote vocational efficiency.
At the option expressed in writing by the parents or guardians, religion shall be allowed to be taught to their children or wards in public elementary and high schools within the regular class hours by instructors designated or approved by the religious authorities of the religion to which the children or wards belong, without additional cost to the Government.
